Qian Wei woke up to a noisy ringtone. She felt a little sore all over and picked up her phone in a daze. She subconsciously wanted to swipe the touch screen and fumbled for a long time before she found that she was holding an old flip phone, the kind that was popular ten years ago. At first she thought she might be dreaming but then the next instant, the phone call suddenly connected and the loud voice of Qian Chuan blared out, which woke her all the way up.
“Qian Chuan? When did you return home?”
“Qian Wei, are you out of your mind? What ‘return home’? I’m at the boys’ dormitory, building two in the East District, come here quickly something big is happening.”
Building 2? Boys dormitory? East District?? Qian was stunned for a long time. She looked around and what she saw was completely strange. This was obviously a girls’ dormitory, with two rows of upper and lower beds on one side and four desks on the other. The longer Qian stared at the dorm room the more familiar it looked and the more cold sweat she felt.
This… this was clearly her university dormitory! She pinched herself hard. It hurt! It fucking hurt! Qian Wei looked up at the calendar on the wall, September 12, 2009. It was really the year when she was 19.
Looks like she really died! Qian Wei thought bitterly that if she had known that temple last night was so magical, she should not have said anything about a wish to return to the age of 19. Even if she did not make a wish like “give me another 500 wishes,” she could have at least won the lottery worth tens of millions of yuan. What’s more, she died. And she died in such an unexpectedly speechless way. She fell into a pit, ah~! Couldn’t she have been given a more magnificent way to die? At the very least she could have been acting bravely in the name righteousness! If she died like that, she could have gotten the title of “brave and good citizen” and went on TV.
“Qian Wei! How many times have I told you that you must turn off your cell phone before you go to bed?”
Qian Wei’s bed was the lower bunk and from above her came the complaint of her upper bunkmate Liu Shiyun. Qian Wei could even hear the creaking of the bed board when her bunkmate turned over.
Qian Wei tried to channel ‘Ah Q’* spiritually and thought, well, now that she had already been reborn, cheer up! Anything was better than dying!
September 12, 2009, the date gradually became clearer in Qian Wei’s mind. Everything seemed to be the same as when she was 19 years old. It had been an ordinary morning and Qian Chuan’s call had woke her up since she had forgotten to turn off her cell phone the previous night.
Wait! Qian Chuan’s call! The 2 dormitories for boys in the East District!
As these clues gradually became clear in Qian Wei’s mind, she woke up completely, and got up from her bed and pulled on a dress casually. Just as she was ready to rush out, a white hand stretched out from behind the upper bed’s mosquito net and grabbed the hem of Qian Wei’s clothes. Then a woman with messy hair poked her head out from behind the mosquito net and reached out her other arm that was holding a potted cactus.
“Qian Wei, are you going downstairs? Bring my cactus down with you and put it in the sun on the big balcony on the first floor. There is no sun on the balcony of our dormitory, so my cactus is dying.”
In September 2009, not long after the sophomore year began, a pervert sneaked into the girls’ dormitory next door in the middle of the night. Although the pervert did not manage to do anything and was forced to run away because someone spotted him, everyone felt panicked and began to hide fruit knives under their pillows or buy alarms. Liu Shiyun took a different approach. She moved her cactus to her bed, and claimed that once a dog man approached, she could directly pick up the cactus and smash him unconscious.
“Even if he runs away after being hit by my cactus, it will be easy to distinguish him by the cactus thorns in his face!”
Qian Wei still remembered Liu Shiyun’s solemn expression when she said those words. But a week later, the pervert did not appear again, instead Liu Shiyun’s cactus was dying from lack of sun to the point that the thorns had become soft and droopy.
“I can’t wait! I’m in a hurry!”
But Liu Shiyun unrelentingly pulled at Qian Wei’s clothes, so Qian hurriedly took the cactus and went out of the dormitory with the potted cactus in her arms.
She had to hurry to the second dormitory for boys in the East District, where Qian Chuan was looking for Lu Xun about something. In her last life, she didn’t care at all when she was woken up by Qian Chuan’s phone call and had turned over and went back to sleep. Then, when she woke up, Qian Chuan and Lu Xun had had a fierce fight in front of the dormitory building. Qian Wei then followed Qian Chuan down the dark road of offending Lu Xun from this point.
Since God had given her a chance to live a new life, this time, she must make good use of it and have a good relationship with her future boss!
Unfortunately, Qian Wei was still a step behind. When she rushed to the front of the boys’ dormitory, she saw Qian Chuan punch Lu Xun in the face.
Lu Xun, at 19, had a slender figure, with red lips and white teeth. The lines of his face around his eyes and brows were as handsome as ever. His exquisite proportions were reminiscent of the noble son of a large family from ancient times. His face was extremely youthful and full of vitality, it was clean and beautiful, and his facial features were already in the embryonic form of the handsome male god of the future. Lu Xun was such a person. At every stage, you would think this was the pinnacle of his appearance, but each time, he would break your perception and climb to a new peak with his aggressive and near-celestial looks.
It was just a pity that at the moment that beautiful face had been broken by the fist of Qian Chuan. The left side of Lu Xun’s face was red and swollen, and the corner of his mouth was split and bleeding.
He gently wiped the corner of his mouth, looked down at the blood on his fingertips, and glanced at Qian Chuan without expression. Then, calmly and with no apparent anger, he began to roll up his sleeves with a slow and graceful movement.
Qian Chuan looked at Lu Xun triumphantly: “What’s the matter? Can’t fight? As expected, all men who study liberal arts are weaklings.”
Qian Wei just wanted to shout at her stupid brother. Lu Xun was the type of person who, the colder his expression, the hotter his action. She now understood why Qian Chuan was beaten half to death by Lu Xun at the door of the men’s dormitory in her previous life. He provoked him this much? Lu Xun was not weak at all. He had been practicing Sanda since he was a teenager.
“Why are you just staring at me? If you can do something about it, go ahead.”
Qian Chuan was still bouncing around when Qian Wei rushed up and whapped the back of his head.
“Who?!” Qian Chuan shouted angrily and looked back. When he saw it was Qian Wei, his tone calmed down. “You finally came to cheer me on,” Qian Chuan said.
Lu Xun also responded to Qian Chuan’s yell and turned his attention to Qian Wei. At that time, Qian Wei, like flipping the pages of a book changed her face into a smiling face, and she enthusiastically rushed up and held Lu Xun’s hand.
“Classmate Lu Xun! I have admired you for a long time!”
Qian Chuan: ???
Lu Xun was also shocked by this sudden development and was so stiff that he forgot to take his hand back for a while.
Qian Wei was thick-skinned: “Hello! My name is Qian Wei. Although you may not remember me because I often skip classes, I am also from the law school. Qian Chuan and I are twins. Although I was born only a minute earlier than him, I am his elder sister, and I apologize to you for him. I hope you forgive him this time considering that we are both law students. My younger brother is from the Academy of Physical Education. He was admitted to A University with a special enrollment for sports. As you know, the members of the Academy of Physical Education all have well-developed limbs but simple minds. My brother, his brain is not very good so I hope you won’t mind him this once.”
“Qian Wei! What are you talking about? Are you out of your mind? Who has well-developed limbs and a simple mind?” Qian Chuan roared angrily, “my fourth girlfriend broke up with me again because of this Lu Xun! Now even you say that you like him and want to help this little white face**?”
Qian Wei only ruthlessly sent Qian Chuan a contemptuous glance: “Qian Chuan, this kind of thing, how can you blame Lu Xun? You have four ex-girlfriends who have taken a fancy to Lu Xun. First of all, you have no evidence to prove that Lu Xun seduced them. Secondly, even if he did seduce them, you should first look at your own reflection. If you had a strong relationship with your ex-girlfriends, how could Lu Xun find loopholes to exploit?”
Qian Chuan’s face was completely distorted by anger and shock: “Qian Wei, you… you…”
“You what? What? Your ex-girlfriends broke up with you because you don’t have Lu Xun’s charm, knowledge and self-control. You should learn to grow from your setbacks and use them to make yourself stronger. How can you just try to fight with a classmate who is better than you?” After Qian Wei finished, she glanced at Lu Xun fawningly. “Lu Xun, is the injury at the corner of your mouth all right? Shall I take you to the infirmary? If there’s anything you can do, just let me know! “
Lu Xun observed her quickly changing face with a faint smile. He said to Qian Wei in a meaningful tone: “Could you let go of my hand?”
Qian Wei realized only then that she was still holding Lu Xun’s hand tightly. She smiled and quickly let go of his hand: “I was too excited to help myself. Please accept my apology!”
She was living a new life, so she had to rewrite her destiny this time! Not only could she not offend Lu Xun, but she also had to make good friends with Lu Xun as soon as possible! Kiss the ass of the future boss! After all, the future Lu Xun was practically a walking ATM with money falling out of his pockets!
Lu Xun pointed to the corner of his injured mouth, his voice chilly: “Your brother beat me like this, do I have to forgive him with just your light apology? Nothing else? If I remember correctly, it is stipulated in Section 10 of Chapter 3 on page 23 of our school’s student manual that 10 credits should be deducted for hitting a classmate.”
Qian Wei’s forehead began to sweat a little. She didn’t want to offend Lu Xun, but she couldn’t really betray her brother. With Qian Chuan’s pitiful grades, if another 10 credits were deducted it could be estimated that he would not be able to graduate in his senior year.
She didn’t know if people were prone to break through their own limits when they were in desperate situations, but Qian Wei suddenly remembered the cactus in her hands.
“How could I not properly express my sincerity? Here you go!” Qian Wei said. Then she solemnly put the potted cactus into Lu Xun’s hands, “Men, must be flexible and broadminded, there is no eternal hatred.”
“So your apology is to give me a potted cactus?” Lu Xun sneered, “The word ‘cactus’ means to be strong. Did you send me this cactus to make me strong after your brother punched me for some reason?”
Qian Wei explained: “The cactus is also a green plant. Green represents peace and friendship, while the cactus is a plant that can survive in the desert. Together with the meaning of being strong, I hope the peace and friendship between you and my brother can be as vigorous and enduring as the cactus.”
Lu Xun stared at the cactus and then smiled at Qian Wei. “Really? But your cactus, the thorns are already drooping, and it looks like it’s going to die in a few days. I think my peace and friendship with your brother, like this cactus, will soon come to an end.”
“…” Qian Wei wanted to cry but had no tears, “Can I make amends for Qian Chuan?”
“My face was hit, is an apology enough to make amends?”
“Then go ahead and say it! What can I do that will let you reconcile with Qian Chuan? As long as you mention any compensation, I will do my best to provide it!” Qian Wei said, “What’s more, you have always been an example for me to learn from. I have been chasing your benchmark. Now Qian Chuan hit you, although it’s true you were injured, my heart is also feeling very uncomfortable. Who could watch her idol be beaten? You are the pride of our law school! Even if you can forgive Qian Chuan with the kindness and righteousness in your heart, I can’t forgive him. I will certainly go back and educate him properly!”
Lu Xun took a light look at Qian Chuan who was gnashing his teeth at the side, and said: “Since your sister said so much, I won’t pursue it this time.” He turned back to look at Qian Wei, “As for compensation. I’ll let you know when I think or something.”
*Ah Q (阿Q) is apparently a famous character known for interpreting his defeats as moral victories
**little white face is basically just slang for a pretty boy
So that’s the first 3 chapters of my new side project. I’ve noticed the format of the raws is very different from my other project in that there are fewer paragraph breaks which might end up looking like big walls of text to the readers? I’m not sure. While I’m editing I feel like there are places where it would be easier to read if I added more paragraph breaks in the middle of some of these huge run-on paragraphs. What do you guys think?
That boring stuff out of the way, I think this story seems pretty fun. The premise has potential and Qian Wei has a fun personality. I won’t be doing daily releases here – probably once or twice a week, mayyybe 3 times. It will depend on if I have the time.
Qian Wei has no idea she sounds like an infatuated sister berating her brother for punching her crush’s celestial face. You do you, Qian Wei.
Also wow flip phones, that was that long ago? When phones actually have keypads and pocket size…
Thanks for the hard work of translating. Seems to be an enjoyable novel.
the reviews of this novel are very good and the first chapters very funny and interesting. I am excited about this project (ノ≧∀≦)ノ
