DFLB – Chapter 35

Qian Wei thought to herself, wasn’t he addicted to studying and not interested in coming to watch the game? Why did he end up sneaking over here? He dared to come but he’s afraid of being recognized, so that’s why he’s wearing a cap that covers most of his face? If you have the ability to disregard your integrity, don’t try to pretend!

After Lu Xun stood up, he glanced briefly in the direction where Qian Wei and Mo Zixin were sitting, then he quickly turned his head away. He took off the cap and jacket he was wearing. Qian Wei didn’t know why but, even though it was such a simple movement, Lu Xun looked like a calm general ready to lead an army thousands of members strong. The sun shone on his young and handsome face and Qian Wei was a bit dazzled by Lu Xun’s almost perfect profile.

In the midst of the chattering discussions and whispers from girls on all sides, Lu Xun ignored all of it as he walked towards the court. But when he passed Qian Wei, he didn’t even break stride but with a slight shake on his hand, he tossed something over. When Qian Wei finally came back to her senses, she found that Lu Xun had tossed his cap and jacket in her direction.

“Take it.”

By the time Qian Wei reacted, Lu Xun had already walked away. Leaving his cap and jacket to fall between Qian Wei and Mo Zixin’s seats.

Qian Wei glanced awkwardly over at Mo Zixin, who was sitting on her left. Then she quickly pushed Lu Xun’s cap and jacket into her hands: “That was an accident. Lu Xun must have left too quickly and accidentally threw these to the wrong person! It’s probably meant for you. You keep these for him!”

Mo Zixin took Lu Xun’s clothes wordlessly and immediately looked down at the court. In fact, right now, not only was Mo Zixin distracted, but almost every girl present was distracted at the same time. Everyone there forgot to do anything, they just looked down at the court breathlessly with their eyes glued to Lu Xun.

After Lu Xun walked onto the court he did not make any gestures to announce his presence or to suspend the game. He just rushed forward into the game decisively and straightforwardly. He did not say any words to Qian Chuan, only made eye contact, and the two of them both nodded as if they had reached a silent agreement.

Lu Xun had only been on the court for a minute when he smoothly intercepted a three-pointer from the other team. 

“Ah~, Lu Xun is so handsome!”

The girls watching the game seemed to have their flips switched after seeing Lu Xun’s actions, they all began cheering and applauding.

The momentum of the basketball team on the court seemed to be ignited by Lu Xun’s impressive interception and Qian Chuan also successfully grabbed a rebound.

Qian Wei had never seen Lu Xun play basketball during her last life. She had always thought that Lu Xun’s motor skills weren’t very good. However, today Qian Wei realized that she had been too shallow in her understanding of Lu Xun. Was there anything he wasn’t good at?

With his 186cm height and impressive muscle ratio, he had a perfect figure. He had no less strength or explosive power than any of the professional members of the basketball team and he had nearly unassailable shooting skills. His performance was so amazing that it was almost impossible to look away, even Qian Wei’s eyes subconsciously followed him across the court.

Although the situation had not changed much so far, Qian Wei noticed that Qian Chuan’s growing irritability had gradually disappeared, and in his eyes the flame that would not admit defeat seemed to have been rekindled.

After a short lull, the game went on again. This time, however, the situation had been completely reversed. Lu Xun and Qian Chuan had a strong tacit understanding and Lu Xun quickly filled the hole left by the small forward, and he was even stronger than the person he replaced. He dribbled the ball with his left hand, juked several times, and slipped past Zhao Peng, then a rapidly changed direction and shook off several of the opposing players before he jumped and shot. It was a standard and exquisite example of a long-distance jump shot, and he executed the whole action in one smooth motion.

Without any suspense, the ball fell firmly into the hoop.

A burst of screams and cheers broke out from the stands. All the girls who had just been cheering for Qian Chuan suddenly and unexpectedly transferred their enthusiasm to Lu Xun.

Qian Wei had to admit, Lu Xun really was that kind of person. He was dazzling enough when he was keeping a low profile but if he decided to act in a high profile wat then even the heavens couldn’t block his light.

Qian Wei watched as Lu Xun ran, spun, and dribbled across the court. Even though his long legs made him seem very tell, Lu Xun seemed light and effortless each time he jumped. And every time he jumped, his sweatpants would be pulled up slightly and reveal his smooth and white ankles. Qian Wei vaguely remembered what the interns at her law firm had gossiped about in the past and found herself agreeing with it now, Lu Xun really was a man where every single part of his body seemed sexy.

“Wow! Lu Xun is so amazing!”

“Lu Xun, come on!”

While Qian Wei was still lost in her delusions, Lu Xun scored another goal and the gap between the basketball team and Zhao Peng’s team began to close. It went from a 9-point gap just before Lu Xun went on the court, to now when there was only a one point gap.

“There are still three minutes to go before the end of the game.”

Even though this had only been a practice match within the basketball team it was actually a fairly professional affair. The University A basketball team was one of the top three teams in City A, so the school attached great importance to their basketball team. All the provided materials and equipment were very complete and, even for small practice competitions like this one, there were electronic timers and a special scoreboard with accompanying scoring personnel.

Zhao Peng and his team wanted to lock Lu Xun and Qian Chuan down for the last 3 minutes and stop the other team from scoring. As long as they could stop them from scoring they would win the game by one point. So in the last three minutes, Zhao Peng changed his previous strategy. He no longer took the initiative to attack and grab the ball, instead, he began to focus on defense. Several of his players stuck firmly to both Lu Xun and Qian Chuan so that neither of the two could pass the ball to each other or score a layup.

The situation suddenly seemed tense. One minute passed but Lu Xun still failed to break through their defense and Qian Wei could not help but worry.

Fortunately, Qian Chuan and Lu Xun exchanged glances a second time and quickly changed their strategy. After Qian Chuan grabbed the ball this time, he didn’t try to pass it to Lu Xun, instead, he turned around and passed it to another member of his team. One of Zhao Peng’s teammates hurriedly moved away from Lu Xun and rushed to cover the player who now had the ball. Unfortunately, that player was quickly intercepted by Zhao Peng’s street ball players. But Qian Chuan was not discouraged. He kept grabbing the ball and passing it to different players on his team. On the other side, Zhao Peng’s team were in a disorganized mess as they tried to keep an eye on people all over the court, and the three people who had been staring at Lu Xun were eventually reduced to one.

It was the final minute.

Qian Chuan snatched the ball again.

“Zhang Chen, catch!” He yelled.

But this time, just when Zhao Peng and his team thought that Qian Chuan would pass it to Zhang Chen, whose name he called, Qian Chuan instead neatly passed it over to Lu Xun.

Because of Qian Chuan’s diversionary tactics, Lu Xun only had one person covering him at the moment, so he easily received the ball.

“Don’t let him shoot!” Someone called out.

Just when Lu Xun was running towards the basket, Zhao Peng suddenly appeared and gave Lu Xun a hard elbow to the side of his waist.

Qian Wei’s heart leaped to her throat, and she was so flustered she couldn’t think to mind her image. “Lu Xun! Hang on!” She cried out.

Zhao Peng’s hit was underhanded and ruthless. It was obvious that it had been a hard impact because even Lu Xun slightly staggered after receiving the blow.

She didn’t know if it was just her illusion but Qian Wei felt that when she called Lu Xun’s name, he seemed to glance in her direction. He probably could have avoided the blow but Lu Xun didn’t avoid it, he just kept running forward toward the basket.

There were only ten seconds left in the game but Lu Xun was still a long way from the basket, it was a range where it was too dangerous to try to shoot, and Zhao Peng was clinging to Lu Xun like a ghost. On the side, even Qian Chuan, who would never admit defeat, also had a despairing expression full of frustration and resignation right now. In the stands, the audience were all frustrated and just waiting for the expected result.

Even Mo Zixin seemed a little frustrated: “Even Lu Xun can’t save this game. What a pity, the other team is simply too underhanded.”

But Qian Wei, she didn’t know why, but she was unwilling to accept this kind of ending. She always felt that if it was Lu Xun, he could not lose.

So at this moment, Qian Wei’s eyes were fixed on Lu Xun down on the court.

Lu Xun suddenly stopped and, Qian Wei didn’t know if it was her illusion but she thought that he briefly looked up and smiled in Qian Wei’s direction, before he jumped and took a beautiful shot even though he was at such a distance.

The ball drew a near-perfect arc in the air, rolled once around on the basket, and then, with a swish, finally fell firmly through the hoop.

He scored!

From such a long distance, Lu Xun still shot successfully!

The mood of the audience was explosive and everyone began cheering and applauding.

In the face of so much applause, the expression on Lu Xun’s face stayed indifferent. He just smiled at Qian Chuan faintly. Qian Chuan walked over and held out his hand and the two men clasped their hands. The rest of the basketball team also rushed up and surrounded Lu Xun and, who knows who took the lead, but they began to hug Lu Xun excitedly. All those big guys unexpectedly wrapped Lu Xun in a huge multi-man bear hug and several of them even hammered Lu Xun with their fists. Their hair was dripping with beads of sweat and they all seemed young, sunny, and without a care in the world.

It was a beautiful embodiment of youth.

Even though no one thought there was any chance of winning the game, Lu Xun had suddenly turned back the tide of defeat and turned it into victory using his own strength.

The crowd hugging Lu Xun eventually disbanded and walked off the court. From behind, Zhao Peng and his team followed them off the court.

“Now that you have lost, shouldn’t you keep your promise and never step foot on our court again?” Chen Hua, who had been injured by Zhao Peng’s group, limped over with a prideful expression. “Why don’t you all go back home and find your mommies, don’t show up here in front of us blowing smoke.”

This remark was good from the perspective of relieving everyone’s anger, but it was also very rude. And, sure enough, Zhao Peng’s face quickly turned stormy shades of red and black. These guys had always been bullies who were arrogant and domineering and they did not expect that they would be defeated because of Lu Xun’s intervention. Now their faces were all covered with indignation and humiliation but because there were so many witnesses present, it would be difficult to go back on their words.

Several of the players who had been injured by Zhao Peng and his group had already returned to the stands and were sipping ice drinks, while the rest of the members of the team were all immersed in a celebratory atmosphere. Except for Lu Xun. His snow-white face was slightly flushed from all the running he had just done but the look on that face was still calm and indifferent.

The rest of the team were all excitedly laughing and playing with each other, only Lu Xun was standing silently off to one side and didn’t look like he had just won a game at all.

He walked straight over to Qian Wei and said, “Where are my clothes?”

Mo Zixin stood up shyly: “I have them here, I held them for you. Do you want to put them on now?” As she spoke, Mo Zixin handed over Lu Xun’s clothes.

Lu Xun glanced at his clothes and did not respond. His whole face was covered with an expression that said ‘I’m going to make trouble for you’ as he looked at Qian Wei.

“I asked you to hold these. Why did you give them to someone else?”

Alas, Qian Wei thought. It turns out that I was too stupid and failed to figure out the emperor’s intentions. It turned out that these clothes were for me to take. After all, this kind of attendant work was suitable for a lackey.

“Go and buy me a bottle of water.”

Mo Zixin pouted her lips and said, “Lu Xun, why don’t I buy it for you.”

Qian Wei thought idealistically, it’s fine, your Lu Xun is reluctant to make you do any work! Meanwhile, my skin is rough and my meat is thick so I’m more suitable to run errands!

And sure enough, Lu Xun raised his chin and said haughtily to Qian Wei: “No, she should do it.”

Qian Wei received the ‘decree’ and left to go to the canteen. However, before she made it very far, she heard exclamations from Mo Zixin and Mo Tao behind her.

“Be careful!”

“Look out!”

Qian Wei subconsciously turned back and found that a basketball was coming at full speed in her direction. Its speed was so fast that Qian Wei’s mind went blank. Her ability to respond to stressful situations had always been very poor, and the ball’s speed was so fast, that Qian Wei only had time to close her eyes and wrap her arms around her head.

However, the pain she expected to feel did not arrive. Qian Wei was not hit by the ball, instead she was hit by a warm human body.

She had closed her eyes but she could still feel that body touching hers seemed to have just finished some intense exercise because there were even some beads of sweat on its skin that had not yet dried. But, unexpectedly, she did not smell the stench of sweat, on the contrary, Qian Wei thought that the smell of this body was actually very clean. Qian Wei had been pulled into the arms of the owner of the body so abruptly that she was caught completely off guard and she ended up leaning into the man’s chest. At that moment, she heard the steady heartbeat coming from the owner of the body.

Qian Wei had not been hit by the basketball because someone had blocked the blow for her.

Hurriedly, Qian Wei looked up and was caught off guard when she found herself looking into Lu Xun’s eyes. At such a close distance, the whole world seemed to be full of only that pair of beautiful black eyes.

Qian Wei felt her heart throb uncontrollably.

She remembered vaguely that she had read in a book that you shouldn’t look too closely at someone who was too beautiful, or else you might lose yourself entirely.
