After a while, Li Chongwen came back, and Lu Xun had poured himself another cup of tea.
Fortunately, after Li Chongwen came back, Lu Xun began to eat calmly as if nothing had happened. And the atmosphere between the three people quickly became harmonious and relaxed.
“By the way, Qian Wei, you don’t have to give me the fruit you’ve been giving me anymore.” Li Chongwen suddenly seemed to remember something and said, “The family who recently hired me to tutor their child are very kind to me. Every time I go over to work as a tutor, they always prepare some food for me, so you don’t have to bother slicing and preparing fruit for me anymore.”
He continued, sounding a little shy. “But thank you so much for bringing me breakfast for so long.”
However, as soon as Li Chongwen finished his words, Lu Xun raised his head with eyes that were almost spitting fire. When he spoke to Li Chongwen, his voice seemed a bit off, without a trace of his usual elegance: “She has been bringing you breakfast for a long time?”
Li Chongwen nodded: “Yes, Qian Wei told me that in order to urge herself to get up earlier and study more, she would bring me breakfast in exchange for me tutoring her in Criminal Law. At first, I thought she was joking, but she persisted for over two months.”
Lu Xun’s expression was very ugly: “She also gave you sliced fruit?”
Li Chongwen seemed a little embarrassed: “I’ve been working as an English tutor for Qian Chuan. She prepares some fruit for me every time I go over to tutor him, saying that she should show respect for her brother’s teacher. In reality, I can’t really be called a teacher in the strict sense of the word, after all, I’m just an amateur.”
Qian Wei felt unsettled, and Lu Xun’s expression was making her feel a sense of crisis. She didn’t know why, but she felt a bit guilty, so she tried to change the topic: “Come on guys, eat some of this chicken, it’s really delicious! Let’s hurry up and eat!”
But Lu Xun not only refused to keep eating, but he also set down his chopsticks. He briefly glanced at Qian Wei before returning his focus to Li Chongwen: “Did she ever give you pineapple?”
Li Chongwen seemed a bit confused, but he nodded and said: “Yes.”
“Pineapple can allow you to concentrate. It will go from germination, to growth, to a brilliant bloom, and the result will be a mind immune to distractions. There are no boundaries. And even if there is only a single square inch of land, using pineapples you can go deep into the essence, with the belief in the pursuit of perfection. So we can say the pineapple symbolizes perfection, just like you! I think among the fruits, only pineapple is worthy of you!?”
Li Chongwen was surprised: “Huh? How do you know that? Is that some kind of famous pineapple ad? Am I too out-of-touch to recognize it?”
Qian Wei: “…” Just let me die.
It had never occurred to her that Lu Xun, this guy who would never forget a single provision in the law, also applied that skill to his daily life. It seemed he even perfectly remembered her own nonsense and flattery clearly.
Although, in fact, it didn’t matter much if it was revealed that she used the same words to flatter two different people, Qian Wei still felt a trickle of cold sweat run down her back because of the atmosphere right now. Lu Xun’s expression was so ugly that it seemed that he might explode in anger at any moment, making Qian Wei feel as if she had committed some heinous crime.
But Lu Xun didn’t say anything, he just sent Qian Wei a vicious glare, and then began to pour himself another cup of tea…
The atmosphere was a little weird for a while. During this time, Qian Wei was careful not to say or do anything rash while, for his part, Li Chongwen was unaware of the undercurrent between the other two people at the table so he continued to chatter on about some interesting things he had encountered while tutoring. However, Qian Wei was a little distracted as she noticed for the first time that her heart was a little confused. At this moment, even she herself was a little surprised to discover that Lu Xun’s emotions had such a great influence on her. She couldn’t help but pay attention to the fact that he looked really upset, with his face alternating between black and blue on the side.
It was a meal from a restaurant she was fond of and, obviously she knew the food was good but, in the end, Qian Wei could barely even taste anything she ate.
As it came time to checkout, Li Chongwen took out his wallet and was ready to pay, but when he asked the server he was told that someone had already paid for the meal.
Li Chongwen was a little surprised: “Lu Xun, did you pay?”
“Mhm.” Lu Xun grunted.
Li Chongwen seemed a bit embarrassed: “I invited you to this meal as my treat, but you ended up paying for it.”
Lu Xun’s voice was stiff: “Originally, it would have just been two people’s portions, but I arbitrarily decided to come along by myself, resulting in three. You were busy chatting and I was the only one who drank a few pots of tea alone, so it’s only right for me to pay.”
What was that supposed to mean? Qian Wei wondered. Why did it sound a little strange…
Fortunately, Li Chongwen didn’t have time to mull over Lu Xun’s words because as soon as the three of them stepped outside, he received a phone call.
“Alright, don’t worry. I’ll be right there.” He said curtly into the receiver.
After a brief conversation, he hung up the phone, and his expression was very anxious: “I just received a call from my sister’s head teacher saying that she’s just been hit by a bike. Although it seems to be no big deal, she got a bruise that looks a little serious so she’s been sent to the hospital. I need to go there right away.” He smiled at Qian Wei and apologized, “Sorry, things didn’t work out and it turns out that I can’t walk you back to school right now. We’ll have to get together again next time!”
Qian Wei hurriedly waved him off and said, “Go quickly!”
“Really, we’ll try this again next time.” Li Chongwen said as he hurriedly left. As soon as he was gone, Lu Xun, who had been silent the whole time, seemed as if his switch had been flipped, and he snorted coldly.
“Lu Xun, you’re so weird today. What’s going on? Is there something you want to tell me? Are you in a bad mood? What’s going on?”
Lu Xun’s face was frosty as he said, “You know why in your heart.”
Qian Wei was at a loss. She knew? What was she supposed to know? Was it still because of Mo Zixin? Because her brother, Qian Chuan, stole Lu Xun’s crush?
Unfortunately, no matter how much Qian Wei cajoled him, Lu Xun refused to open his golden mouth again. In the end, the two headed back toward the school together, walking side by side. It was a Sunday night, so there were many other people on the road, young men and women who were talking, laughing and being intimate, whether they were fresh young lovers or the victims of one-sided love, they were all very lively. Only Qian Wei and Lu Xun seemed to have a strange and awkward atmosphere floating around them as they walked.
Unfortunately, even if Lu Xun put on the most unpleasant face that he could, because of his outstanding appearance, all the girls who passed by would take an extra glance or two his way. Qian Wei really wanted to lament on the unfairness of life. It seemed that good-looking people, even when they were inexplicably angry, were still good-looking.
Walking back to school would take a little while. So, because it was too embarrassing to just walk in eerie silence the whole way, Qian Wei tried to find a topic of conversation to break the ice.
“Have you noticed that all the girls we pass by will turn to look at you? Even the ones who are with someone else can’t help but take a subconscious look! Lu Xun, this shows that you are really a very attractive man and that you deserve the best! I believe in you, soon you’ll find someone!”
“Actually, are you free next weekend? Why don’t you come out and get together with us? Liu Shiyun said that the Student Union asked her to help organize an event, and many people from the Medical School and the Dance Academy will be attending. Those two schools have a high proportion of girls, and among those girls the proportion of beautiful women is also very high. I’ve heard that many of the girls there all know your name, and they all want to meet you. Would you like to join us?” Qian Wei thought for a moment and added, “As I mentioned last time, there’s no need to find a partner from the same major. After all, if one person in the family knows the law and can protect their rights, isn’t that enough? What’s the point of both people knowing the law? To put it bluntly, when two legal professionals get together they can expertly dig holes for each other and tear each other apart if there are ever marital problems or a divorce, just like how we simulated it last time in that competition. In fact, I think it would be good for those of us who study law to find a med student as our partners. After all, medical resources these days are just too scarce. But if there is a med student at home, in the future, if anyone in your family ever falls ill, they can immediately use their network to find a good doctor to see the ill person right away. I mean, they say that if you don’t know anyone who works in the hospital then, even if you’re seriously ill, there won’t even be a bed for you…”
Unfortunately, even after Qian Wei said all that, not only did Lu Xun’s face not relax at all, instead, it became even more unpleasant. If before he had been like a dormant volcano that had just resumed its activity, then now Lu Xun seemed more like an active volcano that could erupt at any moment…
Qian Wei cautiously probed: “You don’t like med students?”
At this point, Lu Xun finally spoke and, although his voice was still calm, it was obviously the result of his desperate efforts to suppress his emotions. Qian Wei knew because Lu Xun seemed to be literally trembling with anger, and the glare he sent her way was vicious: “Is it really safe to find a med school graduate? After all, if you find someone from law school then when you get divorced they’ll be able to fight you using their professional knowledge, right? But if it was a med student wouldn’t they be able to use their professional knowledge to poison you? Qian Wei, according to your logic, there is no need to find a partner, or to ever get together with anyone, because it would be too dangerous. Why do you always assume things will end badly in the future?”
Okay, okay, so med students are no good either, right? Qian Wei thought blankly.
But Qian Wei quickly rallied and kept up her efforts: “Don’t worry, don’t worry, actually this event that Liu Shiyun is organizing will also have people from the Dance Academy. People from the Dance Academy should be fine, dancers all have a calm temperament and good figures. If you date a dancer, then you will have more face! Plus, strictly speaking, dance can be classified as an art so if you date a dancer, by rounding up a little, it’s tantamount to dating an artist! How elegant!”
Unfortunately, no matter what Qian Wei said, Lu Xun’s face only got darker and darker…
When Qian Wei saw Lu Xun’s face she didn’t dare to say anything more. It really felt like the more she said, the more her words seemed to backfire. Lu Xun had told her he had a fire in his belly, so she had originally wanted to pour some water on it. But it seemed that, after watering it, she discovered that the pail in her hands was not filled with water, but instead gasoline. And now Lu Xun was in a state where she felt she might be scorched at any moment.
As they walked, the two turned into an alley which was a shortcut back to the school. However, not many people knew about this alley and since it was fairly late there wasn’t even a single other person here. Lu Xun had pressed his lips into a thin line and wasn’t saying anything, so there was nothing but the dark night and a deep silence between them, only broken by occasional bark of a distant dog.
As they were walking, Lu Xun’s pace suddenly slowed down and, as they came to the deepest part of the alley, he suddenly stopped.
Qian Wei was surprised, but before she could ask him what had happened, Lu Xun turned to her. His expression was hidden by the dim light cast by the distant street lights, leaving only a silhouette that was handsome and sharp.
Qian Wei stopped walking and stared up at him. The next second, Lu Xun moved. He walked towards Qian Wei with a cold face, and then viciously pushed Qian Wei against the red brick wall of the alley.
All this happened in the blink of an eye and caught Qian Wei completely by surprise. By the time she realized that she had no way out, she could only feel the cool touch of the wall against her back, while Lu Xun’s face was in front of her and filling her field of view. He was so close to her that she had the illusion that she was sharing her breath with him. Lu Xun glared down at Qian Wei viciously, his hands pressed against the wall on either side of her. This posture constricted Qian Wei’s movement, she couldn’t fall back or turn around, so she was forced to make eye contact with Lu Xun.
“Qian Wei, are you trying to piss me off?” Lu Xun’s bangs drooped slightly over his forehead, and Qian Wei distantly thought that his eye lashes seemed especially long and beautiful under the light cast by the street lights. His eyes were fixed on Qian Wei, and his voice sounded as if he were speaking through gritted teeth, but his expression seemed a little awkward.
The man in front of her was like a beautiful mandala blooming in the night, equal parts attractive and deadly. Qian Wei could hear her heart violently throbbing in her chest, and her subconscious told her that this was very bad.
Subconsciously Qian Wei began to panic. She didn’t even know what she was talking about as she began to blurt excuses, “I… I really didn’t help Qian Chuan pry into your corner. I really didn’t mean to annoy you…”
However, before she could finish, her remaining words were swallowed by a pair of warm, soft lips.
Lu Xun kissed her.
She was overwhelmed by a very strange and contradictory feeling. Obviously Lu Xun’s posture was very ferocious, but now this kiss seemed careful and gentle, as if he were treating her as a precious treasure.
At this moment, Qian Wei had no idea how she should react. She didn’t know where to put her hands or what she should do. It seemed as if the world had suddenly become chaotic and everything left her at a loss as to what to do. Her mind was overwhelmed as if it were in the midst of a nova, full of nothing but dazzlingly bright light.
The kiss was so sudden that Qian Wei completely forgot how she should react. She only stared blankly at Lu Xun’s face, his slightly closed eyes, his eyelashes that were trembling gently, his irresistible jawline, his nose that he gently staggered with hers, and his overflowing hormones that made her legs weak. Qian Wei felt as if her whole body was heating up as their two pairs of lips met and overlapped, she felt as if she could hardly breathe, as if all of her senses were concentrated on their intertwined lips and tongues. There was something moist, with a hint of mint, that was warm and restless…
This kiss was like when they danced the tango. Lu Xun led and Qian Wei unconsciously followed along behind his domineering and powerful movements. He probed with the tip of his tongue, touching and withdrawing, gently intertwining, as he dragged her through a kind of primitive and emotional flirting that was drowning in hormones and adrenaline. Qian Wei could only breathlessly follow along.
