Mo Zixin subconsciously took a step back, and then another, but the raging man quickly caught up with her. The scene seemed to crackle with tension, and Qian Wei subconsciously wanted to help Mo Zixin somehow but, before she could do anything, a pair of strong hands appeared and pulled Mo Zixin away.
It was Lu Xun.
Mo Zixin, who had completely frozen in fear, was pulled away by Lu Xun.
Then, without Mo Zixin to focus on, Lu Xun became the center of the crazy man’s attention.
He seemed hell-bent on venting his anger and indignation, so he quickly lifted the broken beer bottle and smashed it toward Lu Xun. However, when facing this man who was much larger than himself, Lu Xun seemed to have no thoughts retreat. In fact, he didn’t flinch in the slightest, and his eyes didn’t even blink. He didn’t seem the least bit afraid of the broken beer bottle at all as he firmly reached out his arm and caught the other party by the neck in a grip so strong that Qian Wei could vaguely see the muscles and veins on the back of Lu Xun’s hand flexing and bulging. Lu Xun’s eyes were very fierce as he aggressively shoved the man hard against a wall that was not far away, and his other arm shot out to wrestle with the weapon the man was brandishing. The man, who had just been acting so arrogant and domineering, suddenly had no power to fight back at all in the face of Lu Xun’s domineering force. He was helplessly caught by his neck, and his face was slowly turning red as he gasped for breath. Qian Wei could tell that he wanted to continue swearing and cursing, but the way his throat was being crushed left him unable to make a sound.
With Lu Xun’s sudden move, the rest of the boys finally came forward as well. Some of them snatched away the man’s broken bottle while, from the other side, several others twisted the man’s arms behind his back.
Mo Zixin, who had almost been injured at the critical moment just now, was very frightened. She stood behind Lu Xun trembling, looking weak and helpless, like a beautiful rose in the morning dew, and with her misty pear blossom eyes standing out against her flawless skin, she was the very picture of a fragile beauty.
It was a flawless scene of the hero saving the beauty, as if the two of them were born to play those roles.
As Qian Wei looked on, she felt something sour pooling at the bottom of her heart, and she couldn’t help but begin to doubt… did Lu Xun really like her? Did she really deserve him? Was his sudden coldness today all because of Mo Zixin?
Qian Wei stood still and looked at Mo Zixin and Lu Xun, who were standing not far away. Her mind was in chaos. Obviously, she was usually a very bold person but, for some reason, at this moment she couldn’t find her courage. Should she go forward and say something?
“Lu Xun…”
“Lu Xun!” Mo Zixin’s scream completely overwhelmed the sound of Qian Wei’s murmured whisper. Mo Zixin reached out and held Lu Xun’s arm, then said. “You’re bleeding! Let me take you to the hospital to get it treated! ” Mo Zixin’s voice took on a shaky, teary, tone as she continued, “It’s all my fault. If you hadn’t been trying to protect me, you wouldn’t have been harmed…”
It turned out that it wasn’t so easy to hold Zhang Gang’s throat with one hand and his arm that had the broken beer bottle in the other, because it seemed that Zhang Gang had managed to use the weapon to stab Lu Xun’s arm as he was being disarmed.
When Qian Wei heard that Lu Xun was hurt, her other thoughts flew out of her mind and she subconsciously wanted to run towards him to see if he was ok, however, the saying ‘when it rains, it pours’ was probably specifically coined for Qian Wei today.
Because, as soon as she was about to rush forward, Zhang Gang, who was being restrained by several boys, suddenly violently revolted. He used his raw brute strength to try to break free of the two boys holding his arms. His sudden struggle caused the two boys to stagger back a few steps and, before anyone could notice what was going on, one of them bumped into Qian Wei as she tried to rush past. Qian Wei, who was bumped, very nearly lost her footing and subconsciously stepped a few paces to the side trying to regain it.
“Qian Wei! Be careful!”
Distantly she heard Li Chongwen, who had just returned from his phone call, calling out a warning but, at nearly the same time, Qian Wei felt a sharp pain shooting up from the sole of her left foot.
Qian Wei lowered her head and lifted her foot, only to see a piece of broken glass stuck in the sole of her shoe. It was obviously a stray piece of the bottle that had just been broken that she hadn’t seen at all in her hurry to rush over.
Qian Wei bent over dazedly, wanting to pull out the shard of broken glass out of her shoe, but a hand quickly appeared and stopped her.
“Don’t pull it out, it will start to bleed.” At some point, Li Chongwen had appeared beside her. Because he had run just now, his voice was gasping and out of breath, and he said. “Come on, hold my shoulder and try to walk on one foot. Be careful. I’ll take you to a hospital, okay? You need to have a doctor disinfect and treat the wound properly.” As he spoke, Li Chongwen moved to let Qian Wei lean on his shoulder. “If you can’t walk, just lean on me.”
However, before Li Chongwen could get close, another pair of hands appeared and grabbed Qian Wei’s waist before domineeringly pulling her away, as if intentionally keeping her from Li Chongwen.
Qian Wei looked up and her gaze inadvertently met with Lu Xun’s. But after their eyes met, Lu Xun quickly looked away, leaving only a beautiful chin for Qian Wei to admire.
His face was frosty and his voice was both unpleasant and stiff: “Her foot was hurt and it seems she’s too tired to walk on one foot. I’ll just take her to the hospital myself.” He paused and then added, “I need the wound on my arm to be taken care of anyway.”
Li Chongwen looked between Qian Wei and Lu Xun uncertainly, and then said, “Well, I’m worried about Qian Wei. It’s better to go together.”
Lu Xun fearlessly stared straight back at the other man. “Don’t bother, you’d better stay here,” Lu Xun said coldly. “After all, the group activity will continue in the afternoon. It’s will already put a lot of strain on the rest of the group for two people to leave, not to mention three. It’s better for you to stay.” Although his words were still polite enough, Lu Xun’s tone vaguely had the momentum of a person speaking from a superior position, and it was clear he had no intention to give in.
Unfortunately, Li Chongwen, who was usually very easy-going, refused to give in this time. He stared at Lu Xun and said slowly: “But you are also hurt. I’m worried there will be no one to take care of Qian Wei when you leave to get treated.”
When Lu Xun next spoke his voice was vaguely intimidating and, although his face was still placid, Qian Wei knew that this was the tone he used when he was holding back his anger: “Naturally, I’ll wait for her to be treated first before going to find treatment for myself.”
Perhaps he was influenced by Lu Xun’s attitude, because Li Chongwen’s tone also turned a bit hard: “That isn’t very good for your wound.”
“I know my own body.”
The two men stared at each other and tension crackled in the air, until Mo Zixin, still with her watery eyes, stepped in and made a suggestion to try to ease the atmosphere: “Why don’t I go to the hospital with you. After all, I’m a girl too so it’s more convenient for me to be the one to take care of Qian Wei, and besides, Lu Xun got hurt to protect me, so I feel obligated to help if I can.”
Unfortunately, Lu Xun was the kind of person who, as soon as his temper flared like this, no one could persuade him otherwise. He didn’t even think for a second before directly refuting Mo Zixin with a single cold word: “No.”
Lu Xun hugged Qian Wei tightly, and gave Li Chongwen a provocative look: “I won’t waste any more time with you here. Qian Wei’s wound needs to be dealt with as soon as possible, and we should be optimal with our resources. There’s no need for so many people to accompany us to the hospital.”
And, as if to confirm his words, as soon as Lu Xun finished speaking Liu Shiyun, who had been busy explaining things to the police officers who had arrived, suddenly called out for Li Chongwen and Mo Zixin: “You guys, come over here and help out! I need to follow these policemen back to the police station to make an official statement. You can see yourself that people who want consultations are already lining up, so everyone who is free please come back and begin dispensing the advice as promised!”
“…”
Li Chongwen froze then gritted his teeth, took a last slightly hostile look at Lu Xun, before stomping away to the tables. After Li Chongwen left, Mo Zixin naturally had no further excuse to stay so she took a final hesitant look at Lu Xun before following behind Li Chongwen.
With that, the whole farce kicked off by the man whose wife wanted to divorce finally came to an end, and everything quieted down, leaving Lu Xun and Qian Wei alone.
Now there was obviously no one else around, and Lu Xun was obviously already tightly holding Qian Wei, but for some reason, he still just pursed his lips and said nothing. Lu Xun’s brows were slightly furrowed so that his good-looking eyebrows curved into a somewhat subtle arc. His eyes looked straight ahead, and his face was cold, as if what was in his arms was not Qian Wei, but instead, some pig or sheep that was going to be slaughtered for the Spring Festival.
Throughout the whole process, Lu Xun never met Qian Wei’s eyes. However, when Qian Wei shifted carefully to find a more comfortable position in his arms, he finally looked down at her with warning in his eyes, before tightening his grip.
Although she couldn’t be called overweight, Qian Wei was, after all, a big human who weighed at least a hundred jin* but Lu Xun walked easily even though he was carrying her in his arms. The community they were visiting for this event was an old community in the older part of the city, so the roads here were winding and Lu Xun wasn’t familiar with the area. Even if he knew the approximate location of the nearest hospital, he inevitably ended up taking some detours as he tried to make his way there. However, even though he was carrying Qian Wei the whole time, he always held her safely and steadily and he never turned red or out of breath.
Fortunately, they only took a few unnecessary detours before finding a small local hospital.
“Take care of her first.”
After giving that simple command, Lu Xun lapsed back into silence. Even though it was clear that the hospital could treat two people at once, he stubbornly waited until the doctor had come and treated Qian Wei’s wound before allowing the staff to treat his own injury.
Fortunately, both Qian Wei and Lu Xun had wounds that were not deep or serious, and they were simple to treat after being disinfected. However, Qian Wei could hardly walk because her injury was on her foot.
Originally, the two people had planned to go back after being treated but, unfortunately, the weather didn’t agree with their plans, outside it had begun to rain. Qian Wei and Lu Xun were forced to stay in the hospital for the time being to take shelter from the rain.
Seeing the situation, Qian Wei wanted to strike up a conversation with Lu Xun, but Lu Xun had sat down on the opposite side of the bench they were resting on, as far away as possible.
“…”
Although she didn’t know why, Lu Xun obviously had no desire to talk to her right now.
Qian Wei had no choice to put up with it, and soon she was absently staring at the vending machine in front of her in a daze.
Suddenly, still with a frosty face, Lu Xun stood up and walked over to the vending machine, put in some money, tapped a button, and then the vending machine spat out a bottle of milk tea.
Lu Xun picked it up and handed it over to Qian Wei silently.
“How did you know I wanted some milk tea?” Qian Wei asked confusedly.
Lu Xun replied with a stiff voice: “You’ve been staring at the milk tea on that machine for the last ten minutes.”
“If you know I was staring at milk tea, then were you staring at me?”
Lu Xun glared at Qian Wei harshly and denied, “No.”
Then Qian Wei stood up, walked over to Lu Xun, and handed him the bottle of milk tea.
Lu Xun looked up at her questioningly.
“I can’t open it myself.”
Lu Xun’s face was covered with the words ‘I don’t believe you’, but he still took the bottle and opened it for Qian Wei.
After that, the two finally sat together, silently looking out the window and watching the rain.
Idly, Qian Wei thought that this was probably the first rain of winter. She felt a bit lost, and she found that her legs were trembling slightly, but eventually, she plucked up her courage and raised her head to look at Lu Xun.
“Do you prefer Mo Zixin’s type, as opposed to my type?”
Lu Xun raised his head and frowned slightly: “What are you talking about?”
Qian Wei’s heart was still a little sour, and she said: “Today, when we were in front of Mo Zixin, you weren’t willing to talk to me at all.” Then she looked into Lu Xun’s eyes and tried to make her voice sound calm before she continued, “I know that she might be better than me, but I also have my own principles and bottom line, and I don’t want…”
However, Lu Xun’s voice quickly interrupted Qian Wei’s words, and his beautiful black eyes had rounded a bit, in a manner that reminded Qian Wei of one of those big jungle cats when they were in a state of shock: “Why are you bringing up Mo Zixin? Since when did I like her?”
Qian Wei had firmly plucked up her courage, so she decided to just put everything out in the open. She said: “Back when you first confessed to me, I was a little too flustered and I didn’t ask clearly about certain matters. But since that it’s come to this point, I’ll say that I know that, before me, you were chasing Mo Zixin. I already know, so you don’t have to deny it.”
“That’s not true.” Lu Xun pressed his lips into a thin line. “I didn’t like her when I confessed to you, and I didn’t like her before I confessed to you.” He looked Qian Wei directly in the eye and said, “I’ve never liked her.”
*roughly 130~ pounds?
tl note: ahhh isn’t it good when the characters just talk to each other! I mean, I feel like Lu Xun’s ‘revelation’ here was fairly obvious, but Qian Wei is denser than a black hole so it’s good to just say some things out
I feel like Mo Zixin is scheming something
Oh boi the dude who died of stomach cancer during 1st timeline, bro; you were too late, really too late.
sigh… FL just really needs to be honest like… that’s all I ask for but uhhh we might not get it this time but someday, hopefully.
mhhh is it just me or Mo Zixin is just the perfect damsel in distress here? Damn, even I want to protecc at that moment.
I liked it at first but now I find that the drama is so much better. I can’t relate to this Qian Wei she seems like your typical female lead (maybe it’s something lost in translation)…so idk
