Or else, was she supposed to try to grow sanitary pads in the fields or something? She would really want to die if she was forced to use the strange tool used by women of this era.
As the thought crossed her mind, a cold shiver ran up Su Tang’s spine. She couldn’t even imagine it. It would be terrible. Too terrible.
After she saw off Luo Xingchen, Su Tang went back and studied under Song Yi for a while. When Song Yi noticed she was distracted he humphed, assigned her a few tasks, and then let her go back.
Soon, Su Tang and her brother returned to Sujia Village. Night fell and, when Su Nuo fell asleep, Su Tang secretly entered her always-sunny and temperate space.
First, she went around and harvested the mature produce. In fact, all the harvesting and exchanging for points that Su Tang had been doing had slowly leveled up the space and, after more than two months of effort, the space farm was now level 12. This had unlocked a new field where crops could be planted and also expanded the catalog of things that could be grown.
Now that there was more room, Su Tang took out the seeds she had purchased from Yang Fude in the past. There were some seeds that had obviously arrived via the sea-trade, such as chili and tomato seeds, and other seeds that were just rare in this northern area, such as kiwi and dragon fruit seeds.
It had already been a struggle for Su Tang to get even this small variety of seeds, which was part of the reason she was looking forward to cooperating with Luo Xingchen. She was fairly certain that if she cooperated with the other girl many more channels would be available to her, and she might be able to get things like cumin, or even curry, which was only available in the far western regions.
While thinking of the promising future, Su Tang took a final look around the space farm before finally going back out to sleep.
The night passed quickly, and soon Su Tang was up again in the early morning and cooking the usual simple porridge. After the brother and sister pair had enough to eat, they once again set off for town together.
When they arrived at the entrance of the town, it was about the chen hour*, and Luo Xingchen’s carriage was already waiting for them there. When she spotted Su Tang and her brother approaching, Luo Xingchen got out of the carriage and called out, “Miss Su!”
Whenever someone else was around, she was very serious and formal so, when Su Tang heard her, she quickly walked over and matched the other girl’s tone, “Second Young Master Luo.”
The two people with a tacit understanding winked at each other, and then Luo Xingchen invited Su Tang and her brother into the carriage, “Well, step into the carriage first.”
“Alright, please send my brother to the Song residence first, and then we can go.” It wouldn’t be good for her to take Su Nuo along when she was talking about business, and she knew that she might not be free for the rest of the morning, so she wanted to kill two birds with one stone by sending Su Nuo to do her usual fish ball delivery in her place. Although she now had a better business partner, the meat on a mosquito was still meat and, at least for now, she didn’t want to give up on the money she was earning from selling the fish balls.
Naturally, Luo Xingchen didn’t refuse. She followed Su Tang’s request and drove to the Song residence and, for his part, Su Nuo knew that his sister had serious business to discuss so he was very well-behaved and promised to go with Pengmo and deliver the fish balls to Jiang He and Madam Qian. That done, Luo Xingchen took Su Tang to the courtyard she had rented overnight.
The place was not very far from Song Yi’s house, but it was not as big as the Song residence. It was just a fair-sized courtyard with a few large tiled rooms.
“Miss Su and I will be talking about business. Watch the front and back doors and don’t let anyone in.” As soon as she stepped inside, Luo Xingchen directly gave out commands to her followers.
The followers all saluted her and then dispersed to stand guard. When she saw they had all left, Luo Xingchen pulled Su Tang inside a certain room. “Come in, come in. What do you have in your basket? I’ve already prepared everything you requested. What are you planning to do?”
“Why are you in such a hurry?” As she saw the other girl being so rushed, Su Tang smiled wryly before pulling her basket off of her back and setting it on the ground.
She slowly looked around, looking at the well-furnished kitchen that had the grill and stove that she had requested, and nodded with satisfaction. “Not bad.”
“By the way, how did you know about this kind of grill? Actually, I’ve been in the northwestern part of the country before, and it’s only because of that that I’ve happened to see people over there cooking meat with this thing that I even knew about it. It was pretty hard to find but, well to sum it up, I went out and found it for you. Aren’t you grateful? Impressed by these bonds of friendship?”
