After successfully proposing to Qian Wei, Lu Xun decided to follow her back home. But coincidentally, both of her parents happened to be in and were quite shocked. At this point, Qian Wei hadn’t even reported that she had started dating anyone, but all of a sudden she brought Lu Xun back and claimed that they were getting married. Her parents were so shocked that they couldn’t believe it.
It was a mistake Qian Wei would remember for the rest of her life.
What happened was, Qian Wei’s father stared at Lu Xun for several long minutes, not saying anything. Eventually, he left Lu Xun in his wife’s hands and called Qian Wei up to his study.
“Although your mother and I have always wanted you to find your partner, and 28 is a suitable age for you to start a family, we’ve never wanted you to feel pressured or forced. If you still enjoy being single at your age, that’s fine, and there’s nothing wrong with you, so you shouldn’t feel in a rush to jump into a relationship if you don’t want to.” He glanced at Qian Wei and said, “Of course, I have nothing to say about Lu Xun. He’s a good-looking, capable, and trustworthy man. He was with your mother and I every step of the way during the time you were in a coma. He stayed with you in the hospital, talked to your doctors, and helped determine your treatment plan. All the while, it was very clear that he was terribly busy with work, but he would always make time to come and comfort your mother and I, and just having him around gave us a lot of reassurance. In truth, if it hadn’t been for him, your mother might have been so scared that she would have also fallen ill while waiting for you to wake up. “
“However, Lu Xun’s kindness to you and our family, and the matter of you marrying Lu Xun are two completely different things.” Qian Wei’s father’s tone turned very serious. “The favors he did for us and treatment fees he covered can always be repaid over time, so I don’t want you to rush into marriage with light feelings like ‘gratitude’ or ‘wanting to return the favor’. When two people get married these days, it should be on the premise that they are in love.”
After listening for a long time, Qian Wei finally understood what her father was worried about. She felt a bit helpless, so she just smiled and said: “Dad, do you think that I am the kind of person who would want to exchange my body to repay someone’s kindness? Of course not! Besides, do you know how many women out there would leap at the chance to sell themselves to Lu Xun if he did them a big favor? In the first place, even if I really wanted to sell myself off to return the favor in that way, if Lu Xun didn’t like me would I even be able to? I’m not exaggerating when I say that the number of women willing to crawl into his bed to ‘repay his kindness’ could line themselves up and the line would go all the way around our office building a few times!”
“…”
“What’s more, isn’t it all Lu Xun’s fault that I’m still single at 28 in the first place? After all, I’m not bad-looking, my personality is decent, and I don’t have outlandishly high standards or anything, just wanting a reliable partner… so if I had the time to go out and meet people wouldn’t it have been easy for me to have found someone by now? But I’m already 28 years old and still single so we can say, in the final analysis, the blame should all fall squarely on this boss of mine, Lu Xun, who always made me work overtime all day. Now that I’m still unmarried at this age, if I don’t find Lu Xun to take responsibility then who should I find?”
Hearing this, Qian Wei’s father agreed righteously: “En, you’re right. Since my daughter was ultimately delayed by his actions, he should definitely have to take responsibility!”
“Uncle, I’m willing to take responsibility.”
Behind them, the door of the study was suddenly gently pushed open by Qian Wei’s mother and Lu Xun had spoken from just behind her. When he finished speaking her mother smiled and beckoned Qian Wei’s father over: “Alright come out now. These two children like each other, so don’t try to hold a secret meeting in here and meddle.”
With that, the four people all returned to the living room together. Soon it became obvious that Lu Xun had used his time alone with Qian Wei’s mother to charm her completely and have her defect to his side.
“Wei Wei, doesn’t Xiao Xun usually charge clients starting from 5,000 an hour? I feel like we’ve talked to him for so long that we need to pay him ten thousand yuan. “
“Auntie, although I usually charge 5,000 an hour, for Qian Wei and her family it will always be free.” Lu Xun smiled. “If you ever have any legal issues in the future, please just leave them to me.”
The more Qian Wei’s mother looked at Lu Xun, the more satisfied she became with this new son-in-law of hers. She was so happy she couldn’t help but raise a hand to cover her lips from smiling.
Lu Xun continued to smile breezily: “In fact, all this time I’ve spent making Qian Wei work overtime really has prevented her from mingling with the peach blossoms outside, so I feel I definitely need to take responsibility. I hope you two will agree to let Qian Wei marry me.”
“Uncle, auntie, I’ve loved Qian Wei for nine years and have watched over her the entire time, so now that she has finally agreed to be with me I really cherish and appreciate her approval. Today, she agreed to my marriage proposal, but I hope that I can also receive approval and blessings from you, her parents.”
After Lu Xun said all this, Qian Wei’s father had a clearly hesitant expression.
Facing the doubtful father, Lu Xun was well prepared, and his expression didn’t waver at all as he calmly took out various pieces of documentation from his briefcase: “This is my identity card…”
After the identity card, there was his bachelor’s degree, a thick stack of real estate certificates, a driver’s license, some stock certificates…
“This is the full set of documentation that records the existence of I, Lu Xun. Please review it as you like.” Lu Xun smiled, “Also, I’ve attached the records of the hotels I’ve stayed in while on my business trips to verify that I was always alone, as well my health check-up reports from the past five years which prove that I am in good health and that there is nothing wrong with my genes.”
“…” Qian Wei had no idea that Lu Xun had prepared so many things in advance. She was suddenly once again struck by the fact that this man was really unfathomable, with depths within depths and strength that could not be underestimated. It was no wonder he had already been promoted to partner at the firm at such a young age.
It was actually quite frightening how competent he was.
Qian Wei’s father still had some doubts at first but, as he slowly read through the documents Lu Xun had prepared, the satisfied expression on both his and his wife’s faces grew more and more obvious. As they were reaching the end, Qian Wei really wanted to remind her parents to try to maintain a little bit of composure. Weren’t they making it way too obvious that they were practically salivating over Lu Xun?!
After he finished reading all of the documents, Qian Wei’s father was like a different man. He looked at Lu Xun with eyes full of kindness and fatherly warmth, and Qian Wei began to doubt if maybe Lu Xun was actually his real child all along.
“Well, if auntie or uncle have any questions, please feel free to ask me.”
With this prompting, Qian Wei’s mother finally couldn’t hold back anymore. She stared at Lu Xun for a long moment before hesitantly saying, “Xiao Xun, auntie needs to ask you… are you serious about our Wei Wei?” Her expression turned complex, as if she was carefully weighing her words. “Marriage isn’t something that should be done on impulse. Do you want to calm down and think on this for a bit first?”
Qian Wei: ???
Who was Xiao Xun???
What calm down???
Qian Wei’s father also cleared his throat and began to speak: “Well, you are obviously a very good child, and we absolutely have no problem with you marrying our daughter but… you might be too good. We aren’t hoping for Qian Wei to live a life of wealth and luxury, we just hope that she can find someone who is steady and reliable. Someone who will be there with her, to share the good and the bad, and who can stand by her side and let both parties mutually support each other. In the end, marriage and love aren’t the same thing. In marriage, if the gap between the two parties is too big, then the relationship won’t be stable and happy…”
Qian Wei’s eyes widened. She wanted to shout: ‘Wait a minute dad, weren’t you just saying that you were worried that I was only marrying Lu Xun to repay him for what he did for me? Why did it suddenly become you being afraid Lu Xun only wanted to marry me in the heat of the moment and the gap between us is too big???’
Lu Xun blinked: “Uncle, auntie, Qian Wei is very good. She is even better than you might know. On the contrary, I feel that I am the one who is lacking when compared with Qian Wei. Of course, in our modern society, many people have a singular standard of excellence. We’re taught that success means having a successful career, having money, and having power, but I feel that this view is too narrow. A person who knows how to live, knows how to have fun, and who is warm and sincere is a person that also has very precious and rare qualities. I feel that, in all of these aspects, Qian Wei is much better than me. I don’t feel ashamed to say that I have many aspects where I can improve myself by learning from her.”
Lu Xun’s words cleverly laid Qian Wei’s parents’ worries to rest while also subtly praising Qian Wei over and over. Of course, there were no parents who didn’t like to hear their children praised, so after he spoke both elders were puffed up with pride and satisfaction, and the way they looked at Lu Xun got warmer and warmer.
Obviously, Qian Wei’s father had only just said that he only wanted her future partner to be someone steady and reliable, but now it seemed he had completely forgotten about those words. Qian Wei wanted to shout: ‘Dad, what about the most important ‘reliability’? Where is your moral integrity?
Thus, with a few words, Lu Xun easily handled Qian Wei’s parents and had them eating out of his hands. Before Qian Wei even noticed what had happened, the three of them had begun to drink tea and chat happily as if they had been family for years, leaving Qian Wei to watch on from the side with a flabbergasted expression.
Of course, after Lu Xun finished meeting his future in-laws, it was Qian Wei’s turn to do the same thing.
Compared to Lu Xun, Qian Wei felt much more nervous about this meeting, especially when she remembered how she had smeared Lu Xun as an evil boss in front of his parents back then. As that terrible scene replayed itself in her mind, Qian Wei soon found herself drenched in a cold sweat as she sat in the restaurant and waited for Lu Xun’s parents to arrive.
However, by her side, Lu Xun looked calm and serene.
Lu Xun’s mother had been working as a lawyer for a long time, so when she arrived she was well-dressed and fully exuding all of the mature charm of a professional woman. However, she wasn’t as aggressive when compared to some strong women, and she looked at Qian Wei with gentleness in her eyes: “Actually, I’ve been looking forward to this day for a long time. Our Lu Xun is so sullen and serious all the time, he really needs a girl like you to lighten him up and add some passion to his life. You may not know, but these days he really seems to have a light in his eyes he never had before.”
Lu Xun’s father was a businessman who sold wine, and he had an elegant and scholarly aura. To Qian Wei’s relief, neither of Lu Xun’s parents minded about the previous time they met, and they treated her very warmly.
Also, Lu Xun’s father was a humorous and charismatic man. He held a glass of red wine in his hand and talked about its culture and vintage while adding funny anecdotes from his own personal experience. He was well-spoken and knew how to keep the conversation moving, so Qian Wei’s nervousness was soon swept away.
Before they parted, Lu Xun’s mother suddenly seemed to remember something and took out a small bag from her purse, which she handed over to Qian Wei: “This is something that Lu Xun has always kept at the head of his bed, but now that it’s come to this I think it should be returned to its original owner.”
Lu Xun, who had been keeping up his calm and serene atmosphere during the entire dinner, finally showed a fierce reaction at this moment, his expression contorting. Then, as soon as his parents left, his hand darted out and tried to snatch away the bag in Qian Wei’s hand. Fortunately, Qian Wei had quick reflexes and managed to successfully avoid his sneak attack and protect the bag from his claws.
After that, she ran a safe distance away and quickly opened the bag. Inside, she found a picture frame with an aged picture of a girl inside it. The girl in the picture was sitting on a grassy hill under the shade of a big tree and laughing unrestrainedly. The sun was shining down through the leaves of the tree and casting soft shadows on her face, and her eyes were narrowed in happiness as she laughed, seemingly completely unaware that her picture had been taken.
It was the 19-year-old Qian Wei.
Qian Wei suddenly couldn’t help but laugh: “Huh. When was this taken?”
“There was a field day.”
“You always kept it by your bed?”
Lu Xun averted his eyes a bit, and his voice was a little unnatural: “En.”
“You love me so much?”
“En.”
“I love you too.”
“Huh?”
Qian Wei leaned forward and put her lips near Lu Xun’s ear: “I love you too!”
Lu Xun’s eyes turned gentle, and he reached down to take Qian Wei’s hand in his own: “When I was 19, my dream was the so-called ‘three meals, two people, one room, four seasons’. I used to always feel that dream was out of reach, but now it’s come true.” He leaned down and kissed Qian Wei on the forehead. “Qian Wei, I truly love you. Please continue to take care of me in the future.”
————
Time flew by, and before Qian Wei knew it their wedding day was getting closer and closer. As the day approached, Qian Wei became more and more nervous with the pre-wedding jitters and had even been experiencing some nausea thanks to her nervousness. Then one day, while eating cakes and chatting with Liu Shiyun, she was a sudden bout of that nausea appeared.
“In short, just because I casually said that I really wanted to go to a warm beach for our wedding, Lu Xun really went out and booked a whole island! He even invited all of our colleagues in the office, and the invitations included round-trip air tickets as well as room and board for them to stay in. Anyway, we’re going to have to call all of our relatives and friends again after this because, after we have the island wedding, Lu Xun plans to come back to the city and have a more traditional wedding banquet at a 5-star hotel here in City A. It means we’re going to have…” Qian Wei spoke until here and then felt an uncomfortable wave of nausea, she paused for a moment but eventually managed to force it back down and continue speaking, “Anyway, the long and short of it is that we plan to hold two weddings. I really hope that you can make it to both, but you and Qian Chuan definitely must come to my island wedding, we’ve prepared tickets for you both so don’t…”
But then, before she could even finish speaking, Qian Wei was struck with another huge wave of nausea. And this time, she wasn’t so lucky as before, and she directly threw up all over the floor of the dessert shop.
Qian Wei said weakly, “Sorry… I don’t know what I ate, my stomach doesn’t feel so good…”
Liu Shiyun rolled her eyes and said, “Qian Wei, I don’t think it’s that simple.” Her eyes sparkled. “I suspect it might be something else.”
Qian Wei said feebly, “What do you mean? Whatever, help me up first and accompany me to the hospital. I need to go to the gastroenterology department.”
“I think that rather than the gastroenterology department, you probably want to go to the gynecology department.”
“Huh?”
Liu Shiyun said firmly: “My friend, it’s obvious! You must be pregnant!”
Qian Wei blushed and retorted, “Don’t talk nonsense!”
“There’s nothing to be ashamed of. Your family’s Lu Xun has been holding it in for nine years and now he’s finally going to get married, do you expect me to believe that he still lives his life abstinent like a monk at night?” Liu Shiyun pursed her lips and said, “Anyway, let’s go to the hospital. I’ll take you to check.”
Although Qian Wei didn’t believe it at first, she had nothing to say when the blood test results came back.
It seemed she really ‘won the lottery’ this time.
She did an ultrasound at Liu Shiyun’s urging and…
“Oh wow! It’s twins! ” Liu Shiyun was very excited as she looked at the ultrasound, “Lu Xun really is mighty, he got two at once! Maybe they’ll be Dragon and Phoenix twins, and you two will have a boy and a girl before you even hit 30!”
Qian Wei picked up the blood test results and the ultrasound and looked at them in a daze. Then, at that moment, Lu Xun’s voice suddenly rang out from the hospital corridor.
“Qian Wei!”
“Lu Xun.”
Lu Xun’s expression was very anxious: “Are you alright? Why did you come to the hospital? What happened?”
Qian Wei smiled weakly: “That thing you mentioned before, your dream of ‘three meals, two people, one room, four seasons’, I’m afraid it won’t come true.”
Lu Xun turned pale, and his voice was even more anxious: “Don’t be afraid Qian Wei, no matter what kind of disease it is, we can cure it…”
“No.” Qian Wei blushed red and shoved the two pieces of paper in her hands into Lu Xun’s. “It seems I’m pregnant with twins. I’m afraid that we’ll have to change it to ‘three meals, four people, one room, four seasons’.”
After hearing Qian Wei’s words, all of Lu Xun’s fear was wiped away and his expression turned ecstatic. Then he, the man who was always been calm and collected, completely broke character to pick Qian Wei up and spin her around joyfully in his arms, unable to conceal his inner excitement.
Although there had been a small change in plan, was there any better surprise in the world than this?
‘Three meals, four people, one room, four seasons’… so long as they were together, it was bound to be bliss.

I remember several chapters back when you were complaining that the story is dragging. But here we are at the end. Glad you stick until the very sweet end.
Thankyou so much for your translation….I am a bit late but I enjoyed reading this novel
Thanks once again 🙂
Yay, I love the happy ending.
I like the story overall, but QW need to get some level of EQ.
I would have even forgive LX if he go for another girl after the Pro Bono thing. In fact, in other novel she would be the girl who ML used to love but not anymore and would have lose him already. With the reason being that she has already look at his love letter, from his perspective, but show no reaction, he give up and go out to get an “instant wife”. Basically the plot of a lot of novel, like “Rebirth on the Doors to the Civil Affairs Bureau”.
The Pro Bono case stuff with love letter is a direct confession, so no ambiguity on LX part. But she has not even open it yet even after being reminded by him over and over again. In the imaginary scenario I just describe QW would at most be a “girl who missed her chance” or could be a “girl who only now realize his sincerity”.
Huhuh how i wish there’s more. Anyway, thank you so much! ❤️
Phew! It’s finished. What a wonderful story?! I want to thank you for your hard work in translating this wonderful novel 😗😍😃😘
We have a drama adaptation yayyy it’s called legally romance with Tao as lu xun
I’ve always thought the more the chapter the better the novel, but reading this I got to not the length of the story but the material or plot matter. Though I would like to say it’s short too short need more chapters, like some of their daily lives during that 9 yr period and after the marriage. Really I’ll miss this novel very much. How can I forget about Shiyun and Chuan to need some there own love screen time too.
Thank you author for writing it and sunken team for translating it.
That Lu Xun is clearly a harmless freak. What a weirdo. I too might want to slander him to his parents 😂
