Of course, Song Yi and Su Tang were both smart people. They were well aware that Pei Xuan wouldn’t be able to stay the way he was now forever. With his position and identity, he was basically standing on a thin steel cable above a very high cliff, where a single misstep would lead to a devastating fall.
What Song Yi was most afraid of was that he might be forced to grow up overnight one day after receiving a sudden and harsh blow from reality.
As she thought this far, Su tang could only smile and say, “Well, who knows. Maybe he’ll keep being lucky forever!”
Song Yi snorted and scolded, “You little fox!”
Su Tang chuckled, “Master, you don’t need to be so pessimistic. After all, the only constant in this world is change. Therefore it’s my philosophy that, whether things seem to be getting better or worse, it’s actually always a good sign. If things suddenly stagnate and stay the same, that’s when you have a real problem. I think we can afford to be a little more optimistic, things may not reach the very worst outcome.”
In fact, these were Su Tang’s true beliefs. The only immutable thing in this world was constant change, so if things stopped moving it meant you were caught in a pool of stagnant water. It showed that you had already exhausted all of your energy and drive.
It was just like her work in a previous life, every day had ups and downs, but that didn’t mean anything. In fact, when things looked bad, it wasn’t even necessarily a bad thing because at least that meant the only direction left to go was up.
Song Yi sighed and replied, “Perhaps, but I’m afraid it won’t be the best result either. I can only hope that… they don’t take too long!”
Song Yi actually said those last five words quietly under his breath. After all, some words were okay to think, but not okay to say. But thanks to her sharp senses, Su Tang heard it anyway, still, she didn’t say anything and instead slowly stood up from her seat.
“Anyway, master has already spoken, so this disciple is going to cook dinner now. Also, I need to ask master for leave again. This disciple is planning to go out to see the location of the new workshop tomorrow, so I may not be able to come and study for a few days.”
“Alright, understood!” Song Yi agreed to Su Tang’s request for leave very simply, but then he immediately said, “But take your senior brother.”
“What?” Su Tang blurted out, wanting to immediately refuse.
Song Yi saw through her thoughts and spoke again, “Just take him and let him come with you for a while, then he can stay out for a few more days. If not…”
Song Yi trailed off, but they both knew what he was talking about.
After all, why had Su Tang gotten Pei Xuan to promise that he would help her practice her archery tomorrow and all that just now? It was because she and Song Yi both knew that although Pei Xuan had managed to escape away from the capital this time, he would definitely soon be taken back.
It was even very possible that as soon as he left the capital his captors sent by the emperor and empress were already following behind him. However, if they arrived and discovered that Su Tang, Pei Xuan’s nine-year-old junior apprentice-sister, had requested for her senior brother to help her and he agreed to follow her for a few days, then even the emperor and empress wouldn’t be able to interfere. After all, it’s not like they would lower themselves to meddle in the affairs of two children.
By doing this Pei Xuan would at least be able to come out to play and relax for a little while. Of course, when he finally had to go back he would definitely face another mess in the capital.
And as for the news that Murong Zhao asked Pei Xuan to deliver to Song Yi, Song Yi would naturally prepare a response while they wandered around outside.
“Master really is partial!” Su Tang pursed her lips.
Song Yi looked at her, “If not for this why would I let you out so easily?”
Su Tang puffed up unhappily, “Master is so biased! I feel my heart turning dark. I’m going to get revenge!”
“Little fox, take him out to play.” Song Yi chuckled.
Su Tang reached out her hand and said firmly, “If you want me to be a babysitter for that little ancestor, you must pay my rate. 20 silver a day, meals not included!”
“You… little girl, you really don’t lose any opportunity to earn money, do you?” Song Yi really didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Suddenly, he looked at her and asked curiously, “You don’t really sleep while holding your silver at night, do you?”
“Xiao Money, my one true love, what’s wrong with sleeping holding him in my arms? I have to sleep with him in my arms for the rest of my life.” Su Tang didn’t deny this at all. After all, she did indeed keep her money in her room so, if you rounded up a little, that was basically equivalent to sleeping with her silver in her arms.
Song Yi felt that his headache was only getting worse so he just snorted and said, “Just go and cook!”
Su Tang saw his flustered appearance and secretly grinned inside. Psh, he had decided to throw such a big and unexpected burden on her, if she didn’t retaliate a little bit wouldn’t she be letting herself down?

tl begging corner:
tl note: So waaay back when I first translated the synopsis, I decided to translate “小钱钱” as “Money”, so I guess I’m sticking with that. However, since then there have been many characters with “小” in their name which I’ve just left in, so… ugh I dunno. 小 just means “little/small” while “钱钱” just means “Money”, but it’s not “Small Money”, it’s more like a pet name or a nickname for a person named “Money” and I really dunno what the best word for that is. “Xiao Money” sounds terrible to me, but I also can’t think of a better alternative so… meh.
