“I heard that this place used to be a workshop that was used by a pottery maker, but one year there was a flood and this place was too close to Qing River. The result was that the potter, along with his family and this workshop, were all washed away by the river. More recently, a relative discovered the deed to the land and decided to deal with this place by selling it.”
In fact, the reason why Jiang Hong had been hesitant about listening to Su Tang’s first requirement was because of this reason. Much of Qingyuan County was on the edge of the Qing River and, although some sections of the river were fierce, overall it could basically be considered a relatively mild river.
The Qing River was different from the Yellow River that had nine twists and eighteen bends. That river would often change course unexpectedly and cause great disasters to the people living along it, or flood and cause disasters, and it constantly required dykes and dams to be built and maintained along its length.
The Qing River was different though, it basically did not change course unexpectedly or flood with any sort of regularity. However, Jiang Hong still couldn’t help but be wary. After all, even the mildest rivers would flood sometimes.
And that was also the reason why land that was very close to the riverside was all generally cheap. After all, it had been merely a decade or so since the last time the Qing River flooded and caused a disaster. Jiang Hong was even old enough that he had personally lived through that flood which was why, even though Su Tang told him she wanted to find a location that was near the river, he had picked a few that weren’t very close to the river with the hopes of persuading her to change her mind.
However, after meeting her this time, it was obvious that there was no chance of persuading her. Su Tang clearly had her own ideas. Of course, he also didn’t hide that the reason this plot of land looked like this was that it had experienced a flood.
Jiang Hong also heard Pei Xuan’s question and smile wryly. In fact, this location really could be considered just an empty piece of land, and the owner who was holding the deed was also aware that the workshop here was no longer in a useable state, so the price he had asked for wasn’t very high.
“This one is much better than the one just now. Are there any other locations you’ve scouted that are near the river?” Su Tang asked. As she looked around, she truly felt that this place was much better than the plot with the cloth dyeing workshop that they had looked at just now.
When Pei Xuan heard Su Tang’s opinion, he snorted and said, “What kind of eyes are you using to look with? This place is clearly not as good as the other one just now.”
“Senior brother, could it be you’re questioning my vision?” Su Tang replied.
Pei Xuan was still angry, so he sent her a contemptuous glance and said, “En, your eyes are really bad.”
“Huh, I had thought senior brother seemed very good after looking. But now it turns out my eyes are bad, that’s unfortunate.” Su Tang saw how angry he was and deliberately continued to provoke him.
Pei Xuan gritted his teeth. All of a sudden he was sure that in his previous life, no, not only his previous life, even in this life as well, Su Tang was definitely his destined foe. He felt that this little money grubber must have started learning how to be irritating from the moment she was born.
She really knew how to anger people!
But, at the same time, she was also a little girl who was much younger than him, so he couldn’t really do anything to her in retaliation, causing Pei Xuan’s chest to feel very stuffy.
The orange cat couldn’t help but sigh and mutter, ‘Young man, why do you want to go against the dark loli? You should know she is very vengeful!’
Su Tang looked at Pei Xuan’s depressed face and flashed a sunny smile. But, at the same time, she sighed in her heart. She hoped that Pei Xuan could really listen to her words properly. After all, while it might seem like she was just tricking him for fun, there was a serious message she was trying to convey. Even if it all just seemed like joking around, in reality, there was a profound meaning behind her words.
Pei Xuan would soon be returning to the capital. As a hostage, to some extent, it didn’t matter if he seemed a bit foolish and clumsy on the outside, but on the inside he needed to be careful and guarded. Right now, she was just tricking him a bit for fun and the only thing he had to lose was his temper.
But in the capital things were different. Although things may seem fine for him now, if the situation really became chaotic then he would need to be more vigilant against the people around him. He would need to clearly distinguish the words said to him and be able to see through what was true, what was false, and what kind of intentions were behind them.
He needed to be able to say whether he, Pei Xuan, was a pig or not. That way, even if he was confused or unsure, he would still be able to hold on to his own firm belief.
Song Yi had asked her to bring Pei Xuan out with her for a reason. It wasn’t just to let him relax, but also to let Su Tang say a few things to him and, at the same time, pass those words through him and to the crown prince.
