Su Tang hadn’t spoken quietly, so Madam Luo and Madam Miao, clearly heard what she said. Additionally, they were both fairly skilled in the kitchen and felt that they could make the thing that Su Tang described, so they hurriedly promised, “Okay, we’ll go and use the eggs to make the noodles now.”
Currently, the weather outside was getting warmer and warmer and, of course, there was no air conditioning in this era. Although it still wasn’t truly uncomfortably hot like it would be at the height of the summer, Su Tang still preferred to eat cool and refreshing foods.
Nowadays some of the new desserts in Su Tang’s Dessert Cafe also needed to be frozen, which was why Su Tang had some people dig an ice cellar behind the Dessert Cafe and specially bought some saltpeter to produce a lot of ice to be put inside the cellar. Now the Dessert Cafe had a room for cold storage and would be able to make refreshing foods like cold noodles, liangpi noodles, and iced sour plum drink over the summer.
(tl note: Sour Plum Drink or “Suanmeitang” is “a traditional Chinese beverage made from smoked plums, rock sugar, and other ingredients such as sweet osmanthus.” I decided to use “sour plum drink” because it’s easier for an English audience to immediately understand what we’re talking about.)
Recently, Luo Xingchen and Su Tang were both simply addicted to eating cold noodles and liangpi noodles. They would basically have to have one of the two dishes with their meals every other day or so. After all, these dishes really tasted too good with their newly made chili oil and spicy sesame sauce.
However, cold noodles were indeed a bit complicated to make.
Just, when Su Tang heard Madam Zhou mention using two eggs she had opened her mouth to request cold noodles instead without thinking about it much. After all, she wasn’t short of eggs these days so she was already used to using them for cooking.
And, although Su Yongqiang didn’t have an ice cellar at home and didn’t have any ice on hand, water from a well was also cold and could be used to make tasty cold noodles. Of course, without any chili peppers to make chili oil or sesame sauce liangpi noodles or cold noodles were both a bit soulless, which was a pity.
Madam Luo and Madam Miao both went to the kitchen to work, leaving Madam Zhou to looking at Su Tang. Madam Zhou said, “Haha, you really still know how to eat. Even I feel a bit tempted to taste the dish you just described.”
Eggs were actually a scare resource in most ordinary farming families. Even Su Yongqiang’s family, who could be considered to be living pretty well in Sujia Village, would usually never consider using their eggs to cook with noodles.
After all, eggs were fragrant and tasty when fried in oil, but if they were mixed with noodles the taste and fragrance were greatly reduced.
People who had no shortage of money wouldn’t concern themselves with these sorts of thoughts and would just cook what they liked, but Su Yongqiang’s family still had not yet reached that level. They were still used to their lives as farmers who always needed to live frugally.
However, Su Yongqiang and Su Yongshun were not surprised that Su Tang wouldn’t think much of such a request. After all, whenever they went to visit Su Tang she would always serve them honey water or even sour plum drink.
Those beverages were both precious things but Su Tang could definitely afford them. After all, they had made a lot of money by following Su Tang in the seedling job, and they knew that Su Tang would have definitely earned even more than them. Tang’er was a capable person so she wouldn’t have suffered any loss.
“Just some new things I thought up while doing nothing at home. It’s so hot outside so I didn’t have an appetite for anything, so I made these cool and refreshing dishes.” Su Tang replied with a smile.
It was the truth too. She was feeling very uncomfortable because of the heat these days. The clothes in this era were not as comfortable as the ones from the modern era. There was no such thing as short-sleeved clothing for women, instead, all outfits were long-sleeved, down to the ankles, and layered. It was very hot to wear and she was already missing winter time.
It was to the point that she would nestle herself inside her space whenever it was convenient to do so. The perfectly regulated humidity and temperature inside the space was simply paradise ah. It was the pinnacle of comfort.
Su Yongshun also smiled and nodded from the side. But he knew that Su Yongqiang’s family was also preparing for their meal, so he looked at Su Tang and called, “Tang’er…”
Su Tang understood what he meant, so she said to Su Yongqiang and Madam Zhou, “It’s been a while since I last visited Brother Qiang and Sister-in-law Zhou and I’d like to socialize more, but we can’t forget about business. I’m in no hurry to have a meal, rather, I came here today to discuss with Brother Qiang about the matter of building my new house.”
Of course, as soon as Su Yongqiang and Madam Zhou had seen that Su Yongshun had arrived with Su Tang, and knowing that the season’s farm work had just finished, they both understood that this was the matter Su Tang had come to discuss.
Thus, Su Yongqiang didn’t say any nonsense, he just sat down, looked directly at Su Tang, and asked, “Then have you two already discussed how to build the new house?”
